The Second Week

More from Jerry's diary.

--------------------------

November 10, 2009 (Day 8)
Mommy is feeling a lot better today, so she was able to hold you on her chest.

Today you received a gift from my bosses, who are more like family. They have been praying for you from the beginning. They sent you a wooden rocking horse and a teddy bear with your name on it. What a sweet thing for them to do. We look forward to hearing your laughter and watching you play. You are so loved by everyone, and especially by your mommy and daddy.

November 11, 2009 (Day 9)
Last night you slept for four hours. This was the longest you had slept at one time. It had been at one and two hour intervals that you were waking for food. Of course we would wake and be happy to feed you at anytime. Mommy would breastfeed you and then I'd burp you. You had good, loud burps. Sometimes, a little milk came up.

One thing to mention about how you sleep, you like to sleep on your stomach on my chest with your legs drawn up underneath you like a frog. So we called you our little frogman. This is how you slept best.

The other way was on our king size bed. We had moved that into your room because we couldn't be that far away from you. But we could lay you down on the bed on your back and you would sleep that way. The funny thing is you did not like your crib mattress at all, so that has become the changing table.

November 12, 2009 (Day 10)
Today was good. We just held you and looked at you. You also had your first outing today in the Peg Perego stroller. We took you on a brief stroll around our cul-de-sac. We wanted the sunshine to shine on your face where the jaundice was. The sun is supposed to break down the bilirubin to help in getting rid of the jaundice.

After we came back inside, you had green poop. That meant that the jaundice is getting cleared out of your little body. Mommy and daddy were so relieved. (Yes, we took a picture!)

You also had your first hiccup outside of mommy's tummy. We read that skin-to-skin contact was good, so I took my shirt off and held you while I burped you. When I patted your back to burp you, the skin-to-skin contact that we had made a funny noise and I couldn't stop laughing. It sounded like the noise people make when they're trying to make fart sounds (putting hand under the armpit). I heard that everytime I patted your back. Oh how you make us so happy little one!

November 13, 2009 (Day 11)
We were concerned today about your breastfeeding. You have been having trouble latching. We are concerned that you are not getting enough to eat as you only eat 10-15 minutes at a time then fall asleep. So we bought a baby scale and have been checking your weight. So far so good. It just means that mommy provides you with a lot of milk in a little time. You had your second outing today. We made sure to let the Florida sun hit your face, where the jaundice seemed to be the worst. This was one time where I was glad to live in the Sunshine State.

November 14, 2009 (Day 12)

November 15, 2009 (Day 13)
Mommy read about the classic fencing pose when a baby is put on his back. Here you are doing your fencing pose. Oh what a sweet baby you are!

November 16, 2009 (Day 14)
We took you to your 2-week check-up today. The doctor said all looked good. You had gained back your birth weight and then some. You are now 7 lbs 9 oz. We were glad of that. And we're so thankful that your jaundice is clearing.
